How the Prizm Technology Works

This is all good and well but how did Oakley manage to crack this? Sounds pretty complicated…

They utilized hyperspectral imaging techniques which help scientists and satellites to analyse light in real-world environments. This technique was used by Oakley engineers to observe the spectral peaks that exist in a multitude of conditions.

Once transmission peaks found in nature were identified, the engineers developed specific lens dyes to match certain absorption peaks.

This dye is what helps to remove the “noisy” light from one’s vision and highlight the “necessary” light needed for enhanced visual acuity.

The lenses themselves are constructed from Oakley’s proprietary lens material called Plutonite. They built this material to be highly impact-resistant which is a logical design decision based on the main application of Oakley sunglasses.

The lenses are made by melting Plutonite, a high-grade polycarbonate, down to liquid form and then adding dyes to give it the desired colour and tint. This production method is far superior to that used by other brands because the UV protection is infused within the lens. As such, the lenses don’t fade over time or lose their protective qualities.

Can I Adjust My Ray-Ban Aviators?

Absolutely! Adjustments can be made in two different ways. If your Aviators are not sitting comfortably on your nose, hold the metal frame in one hand and use your finger and thumb to push or squeeze the nose-pad arms in the direction you need.
